How Does it Work?
Momentum is the largest indoor rock climbing facility it Utah. Our skilled staff provide an opportunity to explore the sport of rock climbing by teaching customers the basics. Simply grab a friend, stop by the gym, purchase a day pass and equipment rental, and receive instruction for free! Our staff will teach you how wear a rock climbing harness, how to tie yourself into the climbing rope, and how to hold the rope (how to "belay").
Before you can climb
Everyone who is going to be in the gym needs to have a current Release of Liability Form (Waiver) on file with us. If you're under 18 years of age, you'll need to have a waiver signed by your parent or legal guardian. No Exceptions! You can fill out a waiver online, or if you'd prefer, you can print a paper copy of the waiver and bring it in with you the first time you come in. Do either of these by clicking the appropriate link to the right.
DON'T KNOW HOW TO BELAY?
You'll need to get certified on your belay before you can give anyone a catch here in the gym, but if you've never belayed before, that's ok! Safety instruction covering how to put on all your gear, tying into the rope to climb, and belaying your climber on top-rope is all included in the price of a daypass.
Groups
If you want to get a group together and climb, no problem! Please call us at us at (801) 990-6890 to make a reservation. Reservations must be made at at least TWO WEEKS in advance to insure we'll be adequately staffed for your event. Reservations are required for groups larger than 10. Groups must have a reservation in order to recieve group discounts (see Rate/Hours page).
Climbing alone?
We don't have staff on hand to belay climbers, so if you want to do some roped climbing you'll need a partner. But don't worry, we have an extensive bouldering area to accomodate your solo climbing needs! If you're between 12 and 16 you'll need an adult to supervise you if you want to be in the adult bouldering area, we also have a kids bouldering area specifically designed for our younger climbers.
Find a partner
If you're not into bouldering, come to our Mo' Partners Mixer night! Every Tuedsay & Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30pm we have a staff member here to introduce you to other climbers looking for partners. and don't worry, if you're the only one to show up, our staff member will climb with you!
Explore!
Want to give climbing a try and get some basic instruction before you decide to jump into a membership? Try our Explore program! It's a two week membership that includes
equipment rentals, and two basic climbing classes to boot! If you're hooked at the end of the two weeks and want to be a member, we'll waive the enrollment fee to get started. Click here for more info!
Lead Climbers!
If you're looking to lead climb at Momentum, first you'll need to pass our lead test. There is a $5 fee to facilitiate the lead test. You'll need a partner to take the test with and your own rope to lead climb on.
The test has two parts, Lead Climbing and Lead Belaying. You can get a tag to lead belay if you can only pass the belay portion of the test. But you have to pass both parts of the test to get a lead climbing tag. If you aren't an experienced leader, you can take our lead climbing class to learn everything you'll need to know!
Here's what the test consists oF:
